Melissa was born and raised in Snohomish, Washington. She attended the University of Washington for her first undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature and Communication. After college, she moved to New York City where she taught middle school English and Social Studies in the South Bronx for 4 years while earning her Masters in Teaching. She then spent a year backpacking in Costa Rica before moving back to Seattle. She has been working as a nanny on Mercer Island for the past two years while also studying to become a speech and language pathologist. She lives in West Seattle with her cat and loves to write, run, act, and play trombone.
